Day 1: Welcome to Athens

You will be met by a representative in the Arrivals Hall at Athens International Airport for a private transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Perhaps you will head out for your first traditional Greek meal before retiring to your hotel for the night. We’ll be happy to send some recommendations with your final itinerary.

Day 2: Private Athens City Tour

With a guide, but at your own pace, explore the must-see sights of Athens. The Acropolis, an architectural masterpiece, is dedicated to the patron of Athens, the goddess Athena. The National Archaeological Museum is one of the greatest museums in the world. It houses exhibits of ancient Greek culture from prehistory to the late antiquity.

Window shop around The Plaka and have lunch in a nice restaurant. Then take in the Greek Agora and the Roman Agora, outdoor spaces used for markets and public gatherings. See The Tower of Winds, The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and the Changing of The Guards, The Temple of Zeus, the original Olympic stadium and The Hill of Lycabettous.

Day 3: Private Guided Tour of Delphi

Departing from Athens, you will travel with a private driver through the plain of Viotia, passing by Levadia and Arachova, famous for its bright multi-colored handmade carpets. Arrive in Delphi, the popular oracle of Apollo who spoke to the mortals through the priestess Pythia. Walk up the Sacred Way of the Treasury houses to the Temple of Apollo. Next to the temple is the exact spot believed to be the “navel” (omphalos) of the earth. Also on the grounds are the Theatre and the Stadium at the top of the hill. Enjoy a tasty lunch and then depart for Kalambaka, driving through the beautiful towns of Amphissa, Lamia and Trikala along the way.

Day 4: The Monasteries of Meteora

In the morning, drive to Meteora, whose name means “middle of the sky”, “suspended in the air” or “in the heavens above”. It is one of the highlights of your Greece tour and the second largest and most important complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries. You will visit two of these Byzantine monasteries perched on top of gigantic natural sandstone rock pillars. The whole area of Meteora is a unique phenomenon and it is considered by UNESCO part of our world’s heritage. Lunch at an authentic Greek restaurant and then your driver will take you back to Athens in time for your flight to Mykonos. Yes, it’s time to unwind to island time.

Day 5: Beautiful Mykonos Island

Enjoy a hearty breakfast and then… do whatever you like. It’s your day to move at your own pace and take in the beauty of Mykonos. Head to the beach, stroll through the whitewashed alleyways and pop into some shops, sip some Ouzo, feast on the Mediterranean cuisine – Before you know it, it’s time for dinner and perhaps a bit of the Mykonos nightlife.

Day 6: High-Speed Ferry to Santorini

This morning you will have some more time to explore the Mykonos with its well-preserved Cycladic architecture, white chapels and uniquely beautiful landscapes. After lunch you will be transferred to the pier for the scenic high-speed ferry trip to the beautiful and exciting island of Santorini.

Day 7: Greek Food and Wine Tasting Tour

You will be picked up at your hotel for a semi-private Greek Food and Wine Tasting Tour. Visit two or three wineries and a enjoy a delicious Greek meze-style menu at a local restaurant. With an expert guide, you will learn about wine production in the area and hear about the local grapes such as Assyrtiko. You will thoroughly enjoy this lovely day out touring the island, sampling some of the best wines and traditional foods found on Santorini, meeting new wine and foodie friends.

Day 8: Leisure Day on Santorini

Today is your day. Explore the ruins of a Bronze Age civilization at Akrotiri, swim and relax on the black sand at Perissa Beach, view the whitewashed houses clinging to the cliffs from a sailing catamaran, reach the highest point on the island at Prophet Elias Monastery. Finish the day taking in a gorgeous sunset at Oia village. Enjoy top-notch Mediterranean cuisine and for dessert, try the baklava and ice cream.

Day 9: High-Speed Ferry to Crete

Today you will have most of the day at leisure to continue exploring the magic of Santorini on your own. After lunch you will be transferred to the pier for a scenic high-speed ferry trip to the island of Crete. This island was the center of Europe’s first advance civilization, the Minoans. It has been ruled by many empires since, but the Cretan people wanted to become part of Greece. They did so in 1913 but still retain much of their unique cultural traits. It is a mountainous island with a number of gorges, rivers and lakes, as well as surrounding islands.

Day 10: Knossos Palace

Your tour of the Knossos Palace will offer a tour of the palace itself and the museum before you head out into the countryside to visit the winery of Stilianos. Following your visit to the winery you will enjoy a unique opportunity to sample coffee with the locals in the small villages of Arhanes, Alagni, and Peza.

Day 11: Sightseeing on the way to Chania

Your exciting full day guided tour begins with a trip to the Lasithi Plato and a visit to the monastery of Panagia Kera. You will then visit the Ditkeon Cave as well as Krasi and Mallia on your way to Chania. Enjoy an authentic lunch on your own in Rethymnon where there is a traditional Cretan Tavern before your last stop at the Bay of Souda.

Day 12: Hiking in Crete

Samaria Gorge is one of Europe’s longest canyons and the most well-known hike on Crete. The 16-kilometer (10 mile) hike begins at an elevation of 1230 meters (4025 feet) and travels through steep canyon walls. It does take a certain level of fitness due to the steep, rough terrain and usually high temperatures inside the canyon walls. For this reason, we are happy to recommend less difficult hikes that are just as scenic and enjoyable as Samaria. Whatever your fitness level, we find the perfect place for you to enjoy getting out in nature on the island of Crete.

Day 13: Leisure Time in Chania

It’s your day to enjoy your remaining time in the Greek Islands doing as much or as little as you like before your afternoon flight. Visit the Old Venetian Harbour with its 16th century lighthouse and stroll around the picturesque alleyways of Old Town Chania. Check out the Agora food market, the Archeological or Nautical Museum. When it’s time, you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport with enough time to check in for your flight to Athens.

Day 14: Time to Return Home

Transfer to the Athens International Airport with at least 2.5 to 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight. You’ll be taking home all that you learned about ancient Greece, wonderful memories of the people you met along the way and many images of the colorful landscapes of the charming country.
