This Belize Adventure is a land and sea tour designed for the active traveler who enjoys some physical activity combined with being in nature. Highlights include cave tubing in Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave and an exhilarating Zip Line Tour high above the ground through the canopy. You will push yourself physically by trekking through the jungle, wading across streams and rivers and ultimately up and over boulders. Visit the ancient and amazing Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, Cahal Pech and Tikal in Guatemala. Then head offshore to an underwater adventure on the second largest barrier reef in the world. You won’t want to miss this one!

Belize Adventure

Day 1: Your Belize Adventure begins!

You will be greeted at the airport and receive a private transfer to your San Ignacia hotel. San Ignacio is a quaint town in west central Belize. Located on the Macal River, it’s the perfect inland base for adventures to Mayan ruins, caving, kayaking and much more. Head out to explore the town on your own this evening before returning for a good night’s sleep. Adventure awaits!

Day 2: Cave Tubing & Belize Zipride

Thrill seekers will love zipping along a series of cables, crisscrossing over the rainforest canopy on seven zip runs ranging in length from 200’ to 675’. Then float on your personal tube assisted by gentle currents taking you through an underground cave system. Intricate crystalline formations line the caves and stalagmites and stalactites add to the serene opulence of nature.

Travelers can choose to switch to a River Kayaking trip instead of Cave Tubing or the Zipride. As you float by river communities and lush jungle, you will see a variety of wildlife like toucans, parrots, heron, iguanas and howler monkeys.

Day 3: ATM Cave Exploration

Explore Actun Tunichil Muknal, a sacred cave once used by the Maya to conduct their sacrificial ceremonies. Travel into the past and witness a living museum where human sacrifices and artifacts can be viewed in their original context. For the fit and adventurous, the ATM cave is a full 5 kms deep. After a 45-minute hike across 3 streams in the cool tropical rainforest, you enter the cave’s hourglass-shaped mouth for a 10-meter swim to a rock shelf. The next half hour is filled with sharp & slippery edges. Water depth alternates from covering your toes to portions where only the tallest won’t need to swim. Along the way, you pass many calcite formations. Finally, you ascend 3 meters to a hallowed ground above the river.

Xunantunich

Day 4: Xunantunich & Cahal Pech

Visit the ancient Maya temple city of Xunantunich for an opportunity to view original carved monuments depicting Maya rulers and warriors. Climb 130 feet to the top of “El Castillo” to capture a panoramic view of the Belize River Valley.

Then visit Cahal Pech Maya ruins which boast extensive restoration to masks, facades, terraces, stairways and structures. Perched proudly on a hilltop, many of the structures have been identified as elite residences. This indicates Cahal Pech served mainly as a royal compound.

Day 5: Tikal Mayan Ruins in Guatemala

Your guide will be pick you up early this morning to take you to Tikal located in neighboring Guatemala. Tikal is a one of world’s travel wonders and many people consider it a very spiritual place. And the wildlife surrounding the temples it is a naturalist’s dream come true.

The Maya civilization built inspiring temples and cities that formed a complex of religious, social and political. Tikal has over 3,000 structures including palaces, temples, ceremonial platforms, ball courts, terraces, plazas, causeways and reservoirs, and the tallest edifice erected by the ancient Maya. Tikal is truly outstanding evidence of a long-lasting dynamic.

Day 6: Belize Zoo and Ambergris Caye

En route to Belize City, stop at The Belize Zoo for a unique opportunity of viewing Belize’s prolific wildlife in one location. The zoo is exhibits over 175 animals, representing over 45 native species. The Zoo keeps animals which were orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as donations from other zoological institutions. A visit to the Zoo is the best way to get an introduction to the animals of Belize, and to understand why it is important to protect the habitats that sustain them.

Upon arrival in Belize City you will connect on a domestic flight for a quick transfer to the seaside village of San Pedro for 3 nights of island ambiance.

Day 7: Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley

Today is an exciting half day guided snorkeling trip to the Hol Chan. It’s just a short sail to this marine reserve located approximately 4 miles south of San Pedro Town. Hol Chan is home to over 160 species of fish, nearly 40 species of corals, 5 sponges, 8 algae, 2 sea grasses, 3 marine mammals and 3 species of sea turtles.

Your next adventure is at Shark Ray Alley, lying just 3 minutes from Hol Chan. Nurse Sharks and stingrays politely greet you as you arrive to visit them. If you are brave enough you can swim with them!

Day 8: Ambergris Caye on your own

Your Belize adventure culminates with a free day to do as you choose. Explore San Pedro town at your leisure or hang out at the beach. Optional activities can be pre-booked or purchased locally. Water lovers might want to go back to Hol Chan Marine Reserve for another amazing snorkeling experience. If you are an experience diver, you might opt for a boat dive at the Great Blue Hole (minimum pre-flight surface interval required). If you’re an avid fisherperson, or not, you might like a day on the reef. Or you can just relax in a hammock with a good book, taking a break to feast on ceviche and a Belikan. Yes, Belize!

Day 9: Farewell Belize

Tanned and smiling, the time has come to say farewell to the blue sea and beautiful Belize. You will be transferred to the local airstrip for your domestic fight to the Belize International Airport where you will connect with your flight back home. There are daily flights to Belize from many cities across North America, so we hope you will return for another Belize Adventure!
