Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica!

You arrive to San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport where you are whisked off via a private transfer to your boutique hotel at a Coffee Plantation just outside the city. Get settled in your room and take a moment to enjoy the beautiful view. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy dinner and relax in the evening. Your Costa Rica vacation adventure begins early tomorrow morning.

Day 2: Irazu Volcano National Park and the Basilica de los Angeles in Cartago

Your trip begins by ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazu Volcano for a view of the massive crater. On a clear day you can see the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. A thick rainforest hugs the Caribbean side of the volcano. Next, descend to the historical city of Cartago. Visit the mysterious ruins of the old Parish and view the beautiful Basilica of our Virgen de los Angeles with rich displays of carvings, statues and art. Lunch at a local restaurnt is included.

Dinner this evening is on your own. Afterwards, prepare to leave San Jose early in the morning. You will make your way to the coffee fields, green pastures, and a rich agricultural environment, an area depicts the best of a simple yet enriching Costa Rican tradition.

Day 3: Llano Bonito de Naranjo

You’ll have a private transfer and a Cultural Tour of Sarachi and the Famous Ox Carts on the way to your charming lodge. Set at the base of the Espírito Santo Hills in Costa Rica’s gorgeous Central Valley, there are farms growing all kinds of crops– plantains, corn, tapioca, coffee, rice, beans, sugar cane, tobacco and beef. Coffee is perhaps the best represented and plantation tours are becoming increasingly popular among tourists. The architecture and design of your beautiful lodge in the cloud forest of Llano Bonito de Naranjo integrates the most noteworthy elements of the coffee culture. Step onto the private terrace of your spacious bungalow and take in the breathtaking views of Poas, Barva and Irazu Volcanos, as well as the Central Valley and the Nicoya Gulf in the Pacific Ocean seen on clear days.

Day 4: Rio Toro Amarillo Waterfall

After breakfast, you will depart to Los Bajos del Toro, a small village surrounded by rainforest in the slopes of the Poas Volcano and home of the Catarata del Toro. This stunning waterfall stands at an impressive 270 feet (82 meters) inside an old volcano crater in the rain forest. Your drive will take you up to Palmira, where plantations of potatoes, cabbage and pasture fields blend in the natural forest to offer some of Costa Rica’s most scenic views. Afterwards, return to your lovely views at the lodge and enjoy the remainder of the day.

Day 5: Arenal Vida Campesina Tour

Following a hearty lunch at the market, you will journey to Arenal Volcano. Upon arrival, you will experience the real country life of Costa Rica with a private tour of Vida Campesina. You will experience life in the Costa Rican countryside with a farming family that grow typical crops and practice sustainable agricultural techniques. See and learn about common Costa Rican crops such as coffee, bananas, plantains and sugar cane. There are also various animals on the farm. Enjoy a traditional lunch with freshly harvested vegetables and a hands-on demonstration on tortilla making. Afterward the tour, it’s time to check into your beautiful resort with thermal waters heated from Arenal Volcano.

Day 6: Hanging Bridges Natural History Walking Tour

Today you will have a tour of the Arenal Hanging Bridges. This is a complex of suspension bridges and trails through beautiful rain forest. The terrain undulates and the trail crosses ravines with small waterfalls and travels over bridges with panoramic vistas over the treetops including views of Arenal Volcano. As you walk you may encounter wildlife including toucans, poison dart frogs, howling monkeys, spider monkeys and white-faced capuchin monkeys. The 1.5-mile trail is an easy walk for people in good condition and loops back to the starting point. Bring: comfortable clothing, hiking shoes, insect repellent, camera, binoculars, sunscreen and rain gear. Includes roundtrip transportation, guide & entrance fees.

Day 7: Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Boat Tour

The wildlife reserve Caño Negro is one of the most important reserves for incredible bird watching and observation of wildlife in Costa Rica. Caño Negro is also home for many sloths, monkeys, caimans, bats as well as numerous tropical plants. You slowly and silently cruise to this exceptional national refuge in our comfortable boat where you can enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna. Upon return you will be served a typical, delicious lunch in the restaurant “El Caiman” which is nicely placed on the riverbank of “Rio Frío”.

Day 8: Arenal to Monteverde Lake Crossing

Today you board a boat for a one-hour ride across Lake Arenal to Monteverde. It’s a scenic journey with beautiful views of all of the mountains, sky and the awe-inspiring Arenal volcano.

Monteverde is a place of cloud forests and coffee plantations, monkeys, mist, and friendly locals. When you arrive, check into your premium suite and have the remainder of day to explore Monteverde at your leisure.

Day 9: Monteverde National Park and Reserve

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the premier natural history destinations in Costa Rica. The forest is dominated by trees densely covered with mats of small plants known as epiphytes that include mosses, lichens, orchids, ferns and bromeliads. This cool, very green and often misty forest is home to a variety of wildlife. On your private half day guided tour, you could encounter monkeys, coatimundis, agoutis and birds such as Toucanets, Chlorophonias and seasonally Bellbirds and crimson and green Resplendent Quetzals.

Day 10: Extra time for Relaxation

A few extra days after your adventures to relax by the ocean is the perfect way to end your vacation and rejuvenate before returning to your daily life back home.
